Taught by Charlie Grymes
To be offered June 21 - 27, 2008

Virginia from the Ground Up: Southwestern Virginia NCLC 398 3 credits Taught by Charlie Grymes June 21st through 27th Come explore Southwestern Virginia. Learn about the rivers, the caves, the forests, and the historic towns by visiting them, up close and personal. Discover how the mountains and valleys were created, how the landscape morphed after the first settlers arrived.. starting perhaps 10,000 years ago. Get savvy enough to discuss smart growth, dumb growth, and how the population will grow in the future. (Did you know you're drinking recycled sewage in some places?). Decide for yourself if we have protected the historical and natural environment enough, or need to do more? When you're finished, you'll find those "ordinary" views from the car window while driving on I-81 will be far more interesting.. This class is offered through the Center for Field Studies and is open to all GMU students, if you are not a full or part time GMU student permission of the instructor is required.
